Overview of Linux /etc/group file
/etc/group is a text file that defines the groups to which users belong under Linux and UNIX operating systems. Under Unix / Linux multiple users can be categorized into groups. Unix file system permissions are organized into three classes, user, group, and others. as shown in the photo.
- 1 group name: it is the name of the group
- 2 password: generally group did not use password it is empty blank it can store encrypt a password
- 3 group ID: This is the group ID number
- 4 Group list: it is a list of the user associated with the group. The user name is separated by a comma
